at work i have a dell D600. 1.80 GHz

i am thinking of buying this dell for home:

Intel Core™ processor Duo T2300E (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)

how much faster will this Duo T2300E (2MB Cache/1.66GHz/667MHz FSB be than my old 800 mhz desktop?

is it time to upgrade?

thx

Depends on what you do really. if you just use it for basic word processing, its probably not a big deal. but if you use it for more intense things such as development or gaming, then yes, its really time for an upgrade. The processor of the new model you mentioned will be roughly 3 to 4 times more powerful. Even more maybe since your computer is kind of old. Also look at RAM (memory) and you should get at least 512 mb 600 mhz. However, your computer way obsolete when it comes to power. But like I said, depending on what you do, it may not be an issue.

well, first there is not pentium 1, it wasd just pentium, and it only went to 266, a 800 intel processer has to be a pentium 3 or a celeron.

the one you talk about buying would be so much fater and better, there is no comparison to even consider, if you have the funds, and use it a lotm get the new one for sure

Yes it is. A Duo processor will speed up the loading time. Its the fastest processor developed by Intel yet.

Yes, it's time to upgrade.
By clock speeds alone you can see that the new chip will be better. It's also dual core, which means that there are two processors on one physical chip, which is a big performance enhancement.
