Uncultured, uneducated person, usually from the Southern part of the USA. I think it comes from the sunburn you get from being out in the sun too much.

People in the country that uses to work outside all day and would get a sunburn on the back of their necks therefore they were called rednecks. Now it is like calling someone a hick or a country boy know nothing, uneducated person. But some people in the South still like the term because it says they work hard and have pride in the South.

Red Neck is generally a term for people with no class at all, stupid, ignorant, people.
Popular term with people born in the "coutnryside farmlands or trailer parks" Also White Trash. (as this is usually used to describe a poor American White person.
Anyone on Jerry Springer.
But mostly Redneck is someone with no class and has like 20 cars in their driveway that don't work, and have to be held up by cinder blocks.

Guys working as farmers, they stay in the sun all day with cloth on so only they neck go red... they meant to be stupid or REALLY down to earth...

kind of like a country boy........lot of people think it's derogatory, but it used to be farmers, ranchers etc. who worked outside would always have a sunburned neck and others who thought they were "more refined" would call them rednecks. Rednecks are actually salt of the earth people usually.
