as far as my personal life goes i'm an optimist.
as far as the world goes i can't see any improvement coming fast.

I'm usually a pessimist. If you're expecting the worse, you won't get disappointed, and any news is good. Anyway, I expect the worse, but I work to get the best.
ADDED LATER:
Curiously enough, my pessimism paid off a few hours after I answered your question. Because of the World Cup, I though the radio programme I like listening to was going to disappear, so the station could broadcast the games. But as it happened, between the two games today, they gave a reduced version of my show. I wasn't expecting that. Actually, I was resigned to losing my show till July, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that not everything was lost. My pessimism made me happy.
