?????????? So you're saying that the TALLEST player has to play center?
It doesn't work that way. Players play the positions that they're best suited for, not because of their specific attributes...Although the tallest player usually is the center, there have been lots of instances where shorter players were centers. For example, when the Washington Bullets won the title, Wes Unseld was the center and he was 6' 7", while Elvin Hayes was a forward and he was 6'9".

First, you're wrong. Dallas' starting center is DaSagna Diop 7', Secondly Dirk is not a center, he has a lack for defense and his height doesn't make up for it, unlike Yao Ming. And only an idiot would say that all 7 footers are centers, look at the Pistons, Ben Wallace is actually 6'7 but does Sheed play center just because he's the tallest player, no.

Just because you are 7ft tall doesn't mean you have to be the center. There is no height restriction on any postion in the NBA. That isn't cheating, that's strategy. Dirk is the real MVP because he's a 7 footer and can do the same thing a PG or a C can do.

There is no rule that says the tallest player on a team has to be the center. Dampier played great defense against Shaq and allowed Dirk to do his thing. Dirk had an off night shooting, but stepped up when it came to rebounds, assists and steals. How is having a 7 footer who can play off guard or power forward cheating? He creates mismatches all over the court, which is a definite advantage. Advantage is legal.

R U tryin to talk smack about my MAVS?!?! What does Dirk not being the center have to do with cheating??? Dallas did'nt have to cheat because size does'nt matter when you have some of the most talented players in the NBA. Too bad Miami's center can't make a free throw... 1 in 10 HA! ;)

How is that cheating? Dirk doesn't like to play center, plus he doesn't jump as high as the guy at center. You can put a guy Spudd Webb can play center if the coach want's him too. After the jump ball it really doesn't matter who is taller.

Let's not forget about Majic Johnson, a 6'10" point guard. Of Lebron James who is also taller than most forwards.
When you reach the pro level (and college for that matter) height no longer dictates position. Your skill set does.

It's the same thing the Spurs do with Tim Duncan. Both are tall but have the ability to play the power forward position. I believe the Timberwolves do the same thing with KG.

Because Dirk can dribble, penetrate, and shoot 3's. Why would you put Dirk in the middle?
