we have a little mouse in the house, we left the door open during the day for like a week, to give it a chance to leave, but its not going nowhere, so, we have to trap it :-(
but we have tried cheese, penut butter and bacon rhind (all suggested favourites) but he either gets away with the food, or doesnt want it.
any suggestions on what to put on the trap or how to get rid of it?
thanks!

only have one. the suburb we live in, is not prone to mice, our house is very clean, and we know it came from a fire across the road. either way, we still need to know what kills mice/mouse.

you have the right bait (bacon works the best) but now you have to make sure the critter doesn't run away with it!
My dad used to tie the bait on the trap (with a piece of sewing thread), so there wasn't a way for the animal to snatch it and run. I tried it, and it works every time!
Make sure you use just a small piece of bacon, don't give it much to munch on, and tie the bacon on the trap part.
And don't just use 1 trap, place them all over. You'll have the critter caught in no time!
good luck

I hate to be the one to tell you this but leaving the door open only gave the little dickens an opportunity to invite it's buddies in! P-nut butter always worked on the trap for us. The trick is putting the trap in a quiet spot near the last spot you saw the mouse. Don't overload the trap as working for his morsel is what is going to trip the trap. Short of getting a cat, try try again with the trap is all that will work. There are poisons and sticky traps but I never liked those around for some reason.

Chances are you may have more than one.
I have heard that mice are very curious, and mice aren't that hard to catch. Are you sure that your trap is triggering? How about using several, with different baits?
I had the best luck when I put mousetraps in the space under the bottom drawer in the kitchen cabinet, where I found some droppings. Look for the droppings, and put the traps in those places. I thought we had one, but I caught five in the same site.
Of course, since I've had cats, there has been very little problem with mice.
Are you concerned with catching it alive, or do you just want to kill it?.
Poison can be effective, but cruel. You may want to try some tanglefoot (glue) but I think it's less humane than a quick snap.

My cousin and I were just talking about a "mighty mouse" that he had. I learned about a "pickle bucket trap". I guess it works great. Here I looked it up for you...Good Luck:
HERE'S what horse-people do in their barns, I've seen it with my own eyes: get a bucket, fill it with water, about half-full. throw a little floating device in there, like a sponge or a flat piece of plastic, or a horse brush, anything that floats and will hold the weight of a mouse. tie some food to the bucket's handle, (like cheeze, bread, Brie), let it hang over the bucket,in the middle. The mouse tries to get the food, falls in the water. (this seems to happen quite alot actually, even without the bait). mouse Can't climb out cuz the bucket's only half full. Mouse swims to the plastic 'life raft', hangs on for dear life. Person comes. picks up the bucket, carries it out somewhere, ;anywhere they want to dump the mouse (usually very very far away from the barn. Slowly dump out the water, mouse and life raft.

I seen this tape like stuff that is used as a trap.Instead of snapping down on the mouse, the mouse gets stuck to the tape when it wanders onto it for the treat,i have never tried it but it may be worth a try. :)

Set out several traps each night with different things for bait....have you seen the mouse?...maybe your trap is too small or too large....if this fails, borrow a cat for a day or 2.

You think you have only one. But mice don't travel alone. If you want to get rid of mice, let mother nature do it's job. Get a cat. Not a kitten, a Cat.
