Hi! Every one! I am having Win 98 OS. When i rightclick on my desktop & click "Properties" to view the Display Properties, there is no response from the PC. Nothing happens when i click the "Properties" in the popup menu. The dialog box doesnot appear.
Also in Control Panel there is no icon such as "Display".
How do i open up that dialog box?
Whether it would be disabled somewhere?
Iam the administrator & i dont want to upgrade or reinstall windows
please help

Well, buddy, it looks like reinstalling windows is inevitable, because it seems some of your critical system files and apps. are missing from your OS. (...I hate telling people bad news...)

Seems like you are missing the file called Desk.cpl in the Windows\System folder. Check the page below for more information. You can directly go to Start->Run and type desk.cpl and check if it executes. In case it does not, you need to get this file from the windows cabinet files which form a part of the Windows 98 setup.

If that is indeed the case, post another question here at Yahoo answers and ask how to extract a file from the Windows setup cabinet files. But first read the linked page.

Check to see if the graphics card is properly configured in device manager using the latest driver. You also might try removing the graphics card, waiting a few minutes, and then reinstall it. If you have an integrated graphics adapter on the motherboard check the bios to ensure it is enabled.

First try uninstalling recently installed softwares. and For solutions follow-

go to run> type gpedit.msc >enter
under user configuration > go to administrative Templates >Control pannel> Display and make necessary changes! you can do lots of things from here..

well if u are facing these many problems then it probably the time when u format out ur hard disk and install fresh windows on it. i think ur problems wil be solved out with that
