Children of Bodom have some good stuff. However, for me, the greatest is still Jimi Hendrix! And Alexi would probably agree!

Oh my you can get so many varied answers to this question, and to be honest any answer that one would give would be solely based on opinion and not fact. This is a very hard question indeed, I would choose a versatile guitarist. Steve Howe of Yes is very good, he is capable of many different styles of guitar playing. For passion and raw aggression I would choose Pete Townshend even though he is underrated and not a very technical player which is great. Many other good players like Chet Atkins and Wes Montgomery to name a few, the list could go on and on.

Frank Zappa knows his stuff, but are we talking only popular music? Greatest guitarist as in show or techinical skills? Andre Sigovia is said to have been quite good himself.

Influentially it would have to Hendrix. I was a Van Halen nut growing up. I never got into the speed thing, but it is way impressive.
