Thanks everybody. Every reply much appreciated...Success!! I wrapped some ice in plastic as instructed and applied it to the gum for a few minutes.

I was doubtful as the gum was quite gooey, but, I was able to flick off the frozen bits of gum with a sharpish knife - being careful not to scratch the leather.

There were still some gooey bits left but I had a flash of inspiration and used the gum I had taken off and used it like Blu-tak (when bits of Blu-tak stay on the wall if you rub a piece over it it usually comes off?) Same thing here - I rubbed the gum over the leather and it picked up the other little bits.

There was a dark mark afterwards where the moisture from the gum had gone into the leather but I used a blob of diluted detergent (without bleach!) on a cloth gave it a little rub - and hey presto! Just finished the whole piece off with off with some leather wax so it all looked uniform and hopefully you couldn't see where the gum had been.

Thanks again sweeties!

usually you can use ice to remove gum. it hardens the gum and then you can flake it off.

Not to disagree with a previous "answerer", but I definitely would not use peanut butter, the oil could permanently stain your leather. Ice is your best bet and if it is a garment you can simply put it in the freezer for a few hours and then break the gum off. Good luck. If you use ice, wrap it in bags so the water doesn't stain the leather.

Please listen to the ice solution. I work in a furniture shop that sells leather suites and the answer to your question is ice. When you freeze the chewing gum it becoms hard and it will peel off without without leaving a mark. The same principle will work if someone puts chewing gum into your hair. Freeze it and it will flake off. Please let me know that you had success, it will be a great advertisment for our customers.

Put ice on the gum, or stick whatever it is in the freezer (if it will fit) and it will chip off.

Put it into cold place or try to cold it and pull it off.
Then, you can clean leather by some cleaner liquids.
