there are tons of parental software out there (usually around $30) that will let you block and/or view what your child is doing while you are gone.

Password protect your BIOS with a strong password of at least 8 characters that only you know. Use a combination of random letters (both upper and lower case), numbers, and punctuation marks. Passwords are often easily guessed. Do not use an obvious password such as the name of your sister, the name of the family dog, or the most obivious, overused, and easily crackable password of all time.....L O V E .

To set this password, on one of the first screens that you see when turning computer on (before Windows boots) will say in small type something like "Press XXXX key to Enter Setup" Often that key is the Del key but it can vary depending upon the manufacture of your BIOS. Once into Setup, look for something that say something like "Password protect this computer" You will need to use your arrow keys and your Enter key to navigate in Setup. Your mouse will not be operable. Save your changes and exit.

Once Windows boots, now assign individual user accounts for each kid each with a different strong password for each kid that only Mom knows!

Or,just do like a friend of mine does, put the whole computer system on a wheelable cart and when Mom goes out, She unplugs the terminal strip/surge protector from the power outlet, disconnects the internet connection wire and wheels the whole damn thing into another room and locks the door while she is away.

Anyway, Great luck!

There are a few things you can do. First of course you can put a password on the computer when the computer is turned on. The second thing you can do is to go to your internet explorer browser and click on tool, internet options, click on the content tab then enable content advisor and customize it so only certain types of websites are only to be able to access or none at all.

Try a 3rd party software that you control the password. Many of them allow you to set the services available to the user. That way they can still do homework or play solitaire but you can just lock out the internet

most internet services like yahoo and aol have a parental controls setting which you can set for specific times of the day. For yahoo go to Tools then Parental Controls and go from there. You can also request a "report card" which will tell you what site they went on, who they im'd with or e-mailed and you can set it so they cannot IM or E-mail or can only go to specific sites. It's great!!

Install a firewall and engage the internet lock with a password!! You can do this with almost all firewalls. If you don't want them using the computer at all just use a BIOS password like I do!!

you could make the user profile password protected....if there is only one, create separate profiles for your kids but retain admin rights and then if they want to use the internet you will have to log in for them under the profile that has the internet access program..
