This couch has been my favorite couch for many years. I have recently got my own place, got the couch out of storage and it smells horrible. I don't have a steam cleaner and can't afford to get it done professionally.

Definately steam clean it first. What I have had even better luck with than Febreeze is those vacuum-free carpet and upholstery sprays such as Arm & Hammer.

You don't want to put febreeze on it..You are just coverig the smell up and it will return. I would buy a steam cleaner. And use the attachments to clean it. The cleaner is great to have, it will pay for itself in just a few uses. I just bought a Hoover a couple days ago and wow...works great. Stay away from Bissell, they are junk. Check out Amazon.com and read the reviews to get the best one.

They are right about Febreeze. It probably will not get it the first time though, so spray liberally, let dry, and then repeat. I had a couch that we got from a friend who smoked like a chimney, and I had to spray it at least 8 times, but finally the smell went away.
