It means you have too much stuff on your computer using the memory. You either need to buy more memory and get it installed on your computer, or delete everything you don't need. Especially if you have a lot of movies and stuff on your computer, that takes up an insane amount of room.

Virtual Memory is memory that is created on the hard drive in a computer that doesn't have enough RAM memory. Virtual memory is used when running large programs, windows will create what are called swap files which means that files are written to the virtual memory on the hard drive and then retrieved and swapped as needed in order to run a program. That is why if you watch your hard drive light you will see it on and hear the hard drive grinding away as a large program is running. When the hard drive starts to get too full of swap files you'll see the message about virtual memory getting low. The correct thing to do is to install as much memory as you can afford and your computer will recognize and then programs and even downloading will work much quicker.

Virtual memory is space on your hard drive that the computer uses as if it were RAM (random-access memory). Windows normally regulates this for you, but of course, no computer is perfect: you may have to set it yourself. To do this, follow these steps (if you are running XP):

1)Go to the Control Panel.
2)Using Classic View, click on the "System" icon.
3)At the top of the window, click on the "Advanced" tab (at the far right in the second row)
4)In the "Performance" box, click the "Settings" button.
5)A "Performance Options" window will appear. Click on the middle tab at the top labeled " Advanced".
6)At the bottom, in the "Virtual Memory" box, click on "Change".
7)The "Virtual Memory" window will pop up. Select your drive (usually C), click the button next to "Custom Size" and select the intial (minimum) and maximum sizes.(in MB)
8) Click on the "Set" button and click on the "OK" button 3 times to exit out of the three windows.

NOTE:1. Make sure that you have enough room on your hard drive to support your settings. 2. Set the initial and custom sizes fairly close together. 3. If you set the numbers too high, a window will pop up telling you to set it less than ****MB. :)

This just means that you are running too many programs at once for the amount of ram you have. Virtual memory is the computer offloading stuff to the hard disk to make room. Rebooting is the quick fix but if this happens often consider installing more ram. 512 at minimum, 1 gig would be better.

Windows XP fixes virtual memory problems by increasing the page file space. It usually does it automatically. If not, then right-click on My Computers, select Properties and do it manually.

Vitrual memory is a way of giving your computer more RAM when it doesn't have enough physical RAM. If you are getting warnings about virtual being low you need to either shut down some programs or get more physical RAM. Sounds simplistic but that's life
