Here's the CORRECT answer. Using non-synthetic oil won't hurt your car or engine. Synthetic oil's main advantage is that it performs in a wider temperature range than non-synthetic and theoretically improves performance....but unless you are driving daily in Death Valley, or above the Arctic Circle, you will see no difference in your car's performance by not using it. Run on the normal oil until it's time to change again. And relax. Hope this helped.

Unless your car is required to use synthetic oil (like, say a Dodge Viper), it should not harm your engine. I have seen cases though where switching from synthetic oil to regular oil can cause the car to start leaking oil. I would recommend having it changed ASAP back to synthetic oil. JMHO.

My friend is getting his PHD in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is doing his doctorates on piston ring lubrication. I have asked him this very question. He told me that other than the regualar oil increasing the friction on the ring to bore of the motor because of the lower viscosity of the regular oil, that there are no long term effects to your motor due to the differences in the oil. I tend to believe doctorates on lubrication, he spends hours a day researching on these very types of things. You should be OK. But I would personally go back to synthetic, just because its better for your motor. I use Amsoil in my Lancer evolution.

It depends on the age of the car if it is a recent model then it should be run on more modern oils as the oil pump and oilways are designed for the low viscosity freeflowing oils, but if it's old dont worry too much.
If they have used the incorrect oil it'll be okay just have it flushed and changed again.

As long as they used the correct weight (10W-30, 10W-40, etc) your car will be okay.
