My family had a birhtday party for me yesterday. After the party was over, my dad shouted at me for two hours because I looked tired. There was finals on my birthday, so I had to study the day before. He told me that I was a worthless child and that I should have pretended to not look tired during the party. He added many other things when he was shouting that I won't say here. This hurt me because I my dad kept saying stuff that lowered my self esteem. What should I do?

Maybe both you and your father were just drained. That however does not give him any right to talk to you that way, there is no excuse for that. Each needs some time to cool off. Talk to him about it, if this was something out of the norm for him, talk to him. If not maybe talk to a school counselor, or your mom, or someone else. I am sorry that the end of what should of been a great day was so sad and hurt you. Good luck to you

Listen between planning the party and paying for the party your Dad was probably just drained mentally. He probably noticed that maybe you werent using your best manners during this party and he felt like maybe you werent as grateful or as happy as he had hoped for and maybe it made him feel dissapointed...he shouldnt have went off on you so bad, but at the same time you really should have bent over backwards to show appreciation (tired or not)
Dont worry when you come home with excellent grades on those fianls from all of that studying Im sure Dad will be happy with you agian.

I'm sorry you had to listen to such things from your Father. He needs to keep in mind that an education should always come first. My heart goes out to you. Just apologize (make it sound like you mean it) and move on. Keep up your studies and you will eventually go far.

I think that was totally horrible it was YOUR birthday and your dad rained all over your parade. You were just tired, i do not agree with that, because it has happened to me before but not on my birthday.
