No, no, no. This will not impact the Yankees as much as everyone thinks it's going to. The Yankees have some hot young talent on their bench. Just like Brian Cashman said, "We're very happy with what we have right now out there in the outfield". If need be, they'll go out and trade to get some help, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER TEAM WOULD DO...it's about money with every team in baseball now a days, and if anyone says other wise about their team doesn't know jack!! You just hear about the Yankees doing it all the time because they are a high profile team and always in the news...Boston does it....The Tigers do it... The Blue Jays do it... The O's do it... every team does it.
Oh and the 2nd part of that question...NO again...Boston will not win the east, the Yankees will win the east, yet again!!

The Yankees will just go out and make a trade for someone now that they know Sheffield will be out until September. My guess is they'll go after Soriano to bring him back. And if I remember correctly I believe he is a free agent at the end of the year so they'll be able to let him go after. Anyway back to the question. No I do not believe the Yankees will miss the playoffs. They will win th east and Boston will get the wild card. Chicago will win the central and Detroit will fall out of the race.

The Yankees have been playing with:
-- Matsui out for the season.
-- Sheffield out until September.
-- Giambi and Rodriguez with stomach viruses this week.
-- Damon with a broken toe.
-- Rivera with back spasms last week.
-- Jeter jamming his hand a few weeks ago.
-- Pavano never making it back.
-- A bunch of other bullpen injuries.
And, despite ALL of that, they still hold the lead in the AL East by 1.5 games over the Red Sox. The younger guys like Phillips and Cabrera have really contributed to the ball club and provided a youthful spark for the corporate Yankees. I'd say that they're in great shape.

Never count anyone out. As well all know Boston was down 3 games in a best of seven in 2004. They came back to win the league championship and the World Series.
Then last year everyone counted Chicago White Sox out and they won the World Series.
Who knows maybe Toronto might win the whole thing

Impact?
Of course. Chef not only is a offensive force but he gets the batter ahead of him in the lineup better pitches to hit.
Can they win it? I would like to think so but the Yankees are set up so that the corner outfielders have traditionally been power hitters. Taking 60 homers and 200 rbis out of the corners is no
small ding.

Yes, but that dosent mean that the Yankees are going to go down on the standings. They still have enough force to win and stay at the top where they should always be.

Only time will tell, I think the Yankees need to bloster their pitching to have any chance to make the playoffs.
