We live in Texas, the ground is hard and rocky. DRY.
Should you have a pasture pony shoed???? She has very small
feet, yet they grow so fast .... I am in such fear of founder.....

She sounds like she just needs to be trimmed more often than your other horses,if you have others. All my horses get trimmed every eight weeks. But I have a paint mare who has crappy feet. They grow fast and chip of when it is dry out so I get her done every 6 weeks.Talk to your Farrier and or Vet and see what they recommend.I would say no to the shoes. They aren't going to keep the hooves form growing. But if your horse has tender feet and seems sore going over the rocks in the pasture then I would consider a simple shoe.
As for founder,it is caused by the Laminae (sp?) becoming inflamed and the main hoof bone rotating and sinking down, sometimes through the hoof. This is most often times caused by feeding to rich of a diet, such as spring grass, too much grain or alfalfa.Founder can also be caused by stress on the leg. There is a condition known as road founder and I see a lot of the Amish horses develop it.
But by simply being in a pasture that is dry and rocky can not cause founder.Again, the best thing to do it talk to your vet or Farrier.Hope this helps.

We never shoe our pasture pets ever. They do not need it. Have your farrier out every 6-8 weeks in the warmer months.
It is good that her feet grow fast that means that she is healthy and getting proper nutrition.
She will not founder from hoof growth or from long feet.
You may need to apply a product like Rain Maker on her hooves or feed a suppliment.
When it gets really dry here we flood the area around the water tank so they get their feet wet each time they drink. Not sure if it helps but it can not hurt.
When it id dry their feet will chip but that is normal and ok als long as she is not getting cracks and such in the hoof. Talk to the farrier and see what he/she recomends.
Good luck.

shoes wouldnt help keep her hooves from growing so fast, so no. and just keep her trimmed monthly, there really isnt anything you can do except maybe take a farrier class then trim them yourself. thats what my dad did and it saves money and you can trim them whenevr they start getting long. and you can go 2 a horse store and get hoof oil 2 keep them from getting 2 dry and cracking. and just keep an eye on her, 2 make sure she doesnt get signs of founder. although founder does not come from the hooves getting 2 long.

Go and see your farrier and ask hi m 2 trim the hooves before he reshoes your horse unless you do alot of school work and not egnought hacking 2 keep the hooves thin.

Just get her hooves trimmed more often. If her hooves dry out, try applying hoof oil about every other day.
