Your fuel pump will be in the tank. Whenever you go to replace the fuel pump, please make sure you have disconnected the battery cables. You might also check your fuel pressure regulator. Before going to the extreme, of the fuel pump check fuses or your fuel pump relay. Good luck, hard to say what exactly the problem is without out knowing exactly your problem is. The fuel pump is in the tank and is accessed from underneath the car at the front of the tank. The problem you have may be a bad ground at the pump this is why it's effecting the gauge when you try start. Check the connections to the pump underneath the car near the pump. Use a hose in the filler neck of the tank and get a helper to crank the engine while you listen down the hose to see if the pump is running. If it isn't, well, then you have to check the circuit right back to the computer before you can condemn the pump. You will need expert help to do this. Try slapping the bottom of your fuel tank hard with the palm of your hand as the engine is being cranked. If it starts you know that it is the pump. DO NOT BENCH TEST A PUMP IN AIR IT WILL EXPLODE!! Your fuel pump might be inside the gas tank. Try asking your auto parts store to verify it. In many cars the fuel level sensor and fuel pump are one piece. You might need to lower the gas tank to get to it. If it is possible, syphon the gas out to reduce the weight of the tank before you lower it. With the tank lowered it should go quickly. There are usually a few screws and a wiring harness going to the pump when you reach it. Use good safety practices and good common sense when working around gasoline. Best of luck!
