If you can save someone else's feelings without running the risk that they will learn the truth and be hurt later, then it is okay to lie. If you are pretty sure they'll learn the truth anyway, it's probably best to tell them the truth and do it in a gentle and supportive manner.
It is definitely okay to lie if an enraged person comes running up to you with a weapon and asks if you know where so-and-so (the person they're mad at) is. In that instance, it is best to lie and say "New Jersey".
It is also okay to lie if someone has a big hole in their pants and they notice it and ask you "has that been there all day" - if the answer is "yes", you should probably lie and say "no, I only just noticed it". The better thing to do, though, would be to tell them as soon as you see it.

Sometimes people have the opinion that you should be honest and not lie ever and there is no reason not to be completely honest..but I find that it is brutal to speak the truth to someone if it is going to hurt them deeply...these people who do that have less compassion in them ..then a person who has empathy towards the long term effects it might have on a person should the truth be told...there are ways of telling a person something with elements of the problem and truth in it...without being cruel.
Other situations well I guess in a life and death situation if you need to make someone feel everything is going to be ok and you know deep down they wont survive.to make it easier for them to feel more at peace....something like that I guess..that's a hard question to answer but interesting to think about.

I don't think lying to save face is good. But if it's a lil lie that you can get away with and never even have to talk about again b/c it's usually something you do other times or something, then w/e. It's like, whatever you say will make no difference, but if it's somethign that can come back and haunt you for confirmation or b/c ur too ***** to just tell the truth, then the truth should just be told.

It's not really ok, even a "white lie" can hurt. But sometimes if the truth would hurt more and the person will never find out, then it might be ok. It's like should you tell your kids that the tooth fairy is real? Obviously she isn't but wouldn't you rather your kids grew up to learn that than take away their all-important imagination?

The question you should ask - is if i lie to save the other persons feelings - will the truth ever come out and if it does, what do i do then. Telling a lie for whatever reason, always has a habit of coming back to haunt you.

It is never ok to lie. That is a sin and breaks a commandment. It is better to say, "you don't have enough information to answer that right now" or "can I get back to you on that?" or say nothing at all. Liars always get caught. It's not worth losing your integrity to spare someone else's feelings.

To yourself be true - only lie if it feels like the right thing to do.
like you said hurt feelings - you know - I just tried to think of another instance where lying would be okay and it just isn't there so truthfully, it really isn't okay to lie. If you are afraid of hurting someones feelings you need to find a way to not do so. For example, do you like my new dress? You don't like it, so you find something about it that you do like and compliment that.
Good luck, may you have only easy dilemmas to answer in life.

in a perfect world no one would ever have to lie but this is far from that so its ok to lie when it makes someones day and it doesn't really hurt any one, theres no point telling someone their hair is horrible short after they'd it all cut off!
