shut down and return?
Or leave your computer on and return? It could be a whole host of problems. Thats not enough information to really go on.

You could have gotten some "updates" that required a restart in order to continue updating. In other words, ms updated the computer then when you clicked shut off, it installed the updates.

Use a BIOS password!!! and make sure that you check for a keylogger program which may have been installed. Also, shutdown ALL of your firewall permissions and reauthenticate only what you need.

that's because you are clicking on restart instead of shut down

restart resets all the comps settings and reloads windows.

shutdown completely turns off the computer.

Classic problem that many people have found. Microsoft fixed it a while back, but you might have not updated.
