I've realised as I get older that it is harder to define whether a person is good or bad (myself included). Take a friend of mine, she's caring, donates blood regularly, would drop everything if you needed help and yet her night time activities and morals are shall we say "somewhat questionable", how could I decide if someone like that is a decent person if things aren't quite so black and white anymore?

There is good and bad in all people. I think as long as she isn't hurting anyone, you should consider her to be good.

Firstly ask yourself; do her 'night time activities' hurt anybody else? If so, does she do it on purpose or is it a secondary effect. Mostly you can never tell if people are good or bad; generally because people are a bit of both.
Don't be judgemental though, it's not your place to dictate what is right and wrong; just take things easy with your new friend; you are probably the best person to make this decision. After all, you know her, we don't.

She is a good person. She lives by her conscience, not morals. No-one has the right to stand in judgement of her, especially you, as a friend. If you were true to your conscience you would know that no matter what she chooses to do in bed she has a good heart, and that is what makes a good person, not high morals which you obviousely have. It is you who needs to take a good look at yourself if you want to be a true friend to anyone

I know this might sound stupid, but you should define someone on how good they are by how they act, not just how nice they are. If someone is constantly being nice to you by giving you money or material possesions, most likely, they are trying to suck up to you or trying to get you to do something. But if someone is nice to you by helping you with homework, inviting you to play a board game with them, and getting you "stuff" occasionally (like on christmas or your b-day ), most likely they are being a cool friend that likes you for WHO YOU ARE.
Also, if they are always expecting you to do something for them or give something to them, the only reason they like you is cause they expect you to give stuff to them, not because they like you for WHO YOU ARE.
Another thing you may of learned as a tike, is don't talk to strangers, don't get into the car of a person whom you don't know, etc., etc. But if you are struggling with reaching something in a grocery store and someone comes over to help you, accept the help as just a small token of gratitude, and thank them. Don't ever make the mistake of mixing up courtesy and selfishness.
Remember, all this is not 100% correct all the time, so you have to use your mind a bit.

Do they hurt other people, or do they help others? Are they causing grief to others or at least minding there own business? Do they break the law or do they try very hard not to.? Are they a liability or an asset to the world or at least their family? Its not that hard to see if a person is a good person or a bad person.

you define good and evil according to the word of god , and I'm speaking of myself as well , ,, for ex sample, god says do not lie , and if a person does lie then that makes them a lire, and that is called sin and sin is evil, i don't care what anybody says you can always find your answer in the bible , and those who say you cant isn't really looking for the truth to start with , .

People are not good or bad.
Actions are good or bad--though sometimes whether they are good or bad depends on your perspective and the circumstances and what the other possible actions were at the time . . .
I prefer to think that people are good and bad. We all have some good and some bad in us.

if you look at the world as black and white...right and wrong good or bad...you are missing out on life. Right and wrong are defined by your up brining and moral standard. Always trust your gut it never lies.

U dont define....u just let them live life their own way...but if ur friends get into trouble..u should be there coz its the easiest thing in the world to judge ur friends and the noblest would be to be there anyway.

for me, its whether they are selfish and cannot stop talking about themselves, egocentric...or if they actually care about you and ask you about yourself...to me bad..is when they are too caught up in their own problems to even acknowledge you or care becuz there too damn selfish
and then yah like u mention, give blood, be like angelina jolie yah people like her are divine....
