Its dangerous, its petty and it burns more gas. Really, do you need to put so much on the line? I never exceed the limit because I am society's greatest creation.

Oh that's funny! I am the greatest creation because I am always aware of my surroundings. I never have to exceed the limit because I am effiecient. I am never late and to those who will end up dead by speeding, see you in Hades!!!

suzie almost won the 10 points except for the backlash at the end. I am perfect. I properly put those who speed in their place. And, for those wrecks I drive past, I simply laugh and laugh while I drive past(doing the speed limit, and with no flaws).

I would think because it gives them some sense of power that they don't have in their life, but it’s really, really stupid and most people who speed will be or have been in a serious accident.

Let me tell you why I sometimes exceed the speed limit. On certain roads, for example the Washington DC Beltway, the traffic flow goes at a rate that is at least 10 miles per hour above the 55 mph speed limit. It is dangerous to go the speed limit, even in the slow lane. Driving in the slow lane is also dangerous because that's the entrance and exit lane and many of the on and off ramps are poorly planned. So I drive in the second lane at the prevailing rate of speed because that's safe. In local areas, I drive the speed limit, because that is safe and I do not want to get a ticket. But on highways, I use the prevailing rate of speed as my guide. I do not choose to be the fastest car on the road or to pass everyone, but I realize the safety of fitting in with the crowd.

Well its obviously because they are selfish morons that dont give a stuff about anyone, frankly the moronic behaviour that they display does not impress anyone, costs more money, not only to the driver themselves, but to everyday citizens who have to pay the taxes to be able to use the roads, to the police to ask for the grants to peel these idiots of the roads and unwrap them from around trees and lightposts and such things, to the govenment, to provide the money to the police for these reasons, and to fix the roads that are so undoubtly wrecked through foolish hoon behaviour, that usually only serves to have innocent people killed or injured to the point that their lives are ruined.
The fact is nothing is done to stop them either, there is no public involvement nor citizen arrest anymore to stop the craziness, there are plenty to say 'oh its not me, im a model driver blah blah blah, i cant do anything to change it.' - You know what you can do something about it, you can teach your child, neices and nephews freinds children the dangers and risks of exessive speed and dangerous driving - let them visit a crash unit to see the results, make them join emergency service teams that have to go and pull these idiots out of their smouldering wrecks, these are the people who have to live with these images for the rest of their lives, that have to seek councilling, all because someone couldnt be bothered to follow the rules and do the right thing. Dont tell me you are a model driver and that your perfect, get out there and save some lives by teaching the young how to drive properly rather than shooting off at the mouth.

A innate need for speed...if there are open roads I feel the need to speed. I also have this sense in me that when I'm driving I'm competing...seriously I feel like I need to make good time and get there as fast as I can. Note: i drive defensively and am not a jerk on the road. I guess I can blame my dad. He drives the same way and yet gets on my case. He excuses himself by saying that he underwent special driving training when he worked for the police dept.

Greatest creation, you mean dumb question writer.
People speed because they are in a hurry. People speed because they like going fast. People speed because they have a lead foot. People speed because they have an 8 cylinder and it rides so smoothly it doesn't seem they are going fast.
Get a clue!

I think the speed limit is usually set about 10 miles per hour too low (except in school zones, of course).

I think it's just because they want to get to where they are going faster..especially on long trips...the law allows 10 miles over the speed limit and some people just love speed...i don't know for sure, but that is my idea...

As a class B driver I can tell you that traffic flow is far safer than people driving at random high and slow speeds. Weather and road conditions should be a strong factor as well.

sometimes people don't realize how fast they're going because their cars ride smoothly. I had a saturn for 12 years and it took forever to get to 60 and it was bumpy. I got a civic last month and I never feel how fast I'm going.

B/c people are chronically late and always in a hurry. That's why I always leave early so I don't have to speed to be on time.
