God's design is originally for two people to become married. This divine institution is a union of two, which make one. It says two people strive to become one 'yoke.' It's all about the merging of the souls, becoming a unification and magnifying God's purpose. The trinity is God, Christ and Holy Spirit. He allows to magnify that by: husband, wife and child.
A little bit more elaboration than needed, but I believe you get the picture.

It's because when 2 people are in love they cease to exist as individuals to an extent i.e the can't act as they could when they were single. They become one unit, a couple. That's why 1 + 1 = 1. Hope this explains it for you!

I agree with Xiaozhu and MG. The other is just religious crap and should be ignored. You have the power and ability of two people but you do become a single unit. It is very hard to exist without that missing portion of yourself that completes you.
