Cartoon Network- which mostly has a following of kids during the day, has a large section at night called Adult Swim. It is adult oriented cartoons. I know my kids have left the tv running on Cartoon Network and we were mortified by what we saw on there. I know many kids are watching this at night and learning WAY too much. We took out cable from their rooms after that. What do you think- is it innapropriate to have adult oriented cartoons on a cartoon channel?

I think they should advertise more so parent's know it's there.

Same thing happens with Nickelodeon. I have seen condom commercials on there later at night. Makes me sick.

There is channel that Dish has called BOOM, it's all cartoons, the old ones, and safe 24/7

Yes it's inappropriate. To kids it is just cartoons on what is normally a kids channel. I was shocked the first time I found my grand-kids watching it. They didn't realize that it was adult cartoons at the time. Cartoons is cartoons - right? They now know that the Cartoon Channel is off limits at night.

To those that say children should be in bed by the time the adult cartoons are on - not all parents can work 8 to 5 jobs. My daughter worked evenings getting off at 9pm so when school was out the kids were allowed to stay up until she got home.

I personally don't like it. When we are flipping channels, the kids all want to stop there because they automatically think a cartoon is meant for kids. We don't have cable in our home (everyone is probably gasping) so it is a treat for our kids to watch the Cartoon Network at their grandparents' house or on vacation. Unfortunately, if it gets too late, we make them turn it off because those Adult Swim cartoons are awful.

Adult swim starts after like 11 or so... it has warnings before every show that some of the stuff on there is inappropriate and that's a good cue to turn the T.V. off... instead of cartoon network your kids should be watching sportscenter... adult swim is aimed for the grown-ups with kid at heart and a sicker sense of humor...

It is Cartoon Network .. not Children's Cartoon Network.

They show appropriate things at the appropriate times .. I am an adult .. an old one even .. and I LOVE some of the Adult Swim programming. Not for young children, of course, but any adult who has lost their love of cartoons needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

my niece and nephew aren't allowed to watch Cartoon Network anymore because, unless you watch it in the early morning, all of the shows are inappropriate for children. It should be kid-friendly, seeing as it is a cartoon channel, but they do have a lot of adult oriented cartoons & its wrong. You're right, kids are watching these & learning WAY too much!

The shows are adult oriented only in cartoon form to appeal to the inner child we all have in us. Daily cartoons that ran in the early days of TV had more obscure topics than there are today, and they were not only accepted they are called classic animation...Tom and Jerry...***** legs big as tree trunks with a voice that would swing low...sweet chariot..Bugs Bunny...My mama dun told me bring sum-thin fer dinner...yup..yup...yup. Put the kids to bed ,grab some popcorn and enjoy its only humor..its the things we would really like to see and hear cartoons do and say. Imagine 20yrs. down the road when Spongebob Squarepants really comes out of the closet!

With almost every brand of cable and satellite tv, YOU, the PARENT, can set limits for what the kids are able to see.

Go to the menu, and look for "locks" or "limits" and you can set it so that say, nothing above pg13 is viewable thru that box. Unless you don't currently use the box, in which case you can rent one from the company for like $2 or $3 per month. You can also limit the maximum hours per day that is allowed. All this is then password protected.

I think it is completely inappropriate to have adult content cartoons on a mostly young children's channel. My son had it on one night and i about died. We didn't take out the cable but we blocked the cartoon channel and he now watches Disney when he go to sleep.

No it is not inappropriate...it is the parents job to know what their children are doing...it is not the worlds job to parent for them...parents have access to all the tools they need if they wish to limit their children's access to adult materials...what the parents often lack is the initiative to do it.

On a side note...Adult Swim features some very intelligent writing...watch Futurama...with the right education you will find a joke (mostly dorky jokes) about every 1-2 minutes and the Boondocks is socially relevant and very funny...
