If you can't see the bugs, spraying the plants won't help...you have to spray the bugs (pests). Check the undersides of the leaves for the bugs. Do the leaves look lacey? I would suspect japanese beetles. Do you see a gooey substance here and there? I would suspect slugs. Go out in the early morning or early evening when it's cooler and damp and you'll be more likely to catch them. They hide in the heat of the day. In either case, I take a jar of soapy water with me and pick them off by hand and drop them in the water.

you can make a homemade spray by doing the following:take some galic and chop finely peel and all it doesnt matter, and and some red pepper and dish soap, and put in all in a jar of water and let it steep for a few days,to form a tea like substance, strain it and put it in a sprayer and spray the plants.this will get rid of grasshoppper and everything.it will not harm or flavor anything that you are growing,i promise i have been doing it for years.but remember you have to spray it again everytime it rain or you water becausre it will wash it off!
if you want to buy some thing in stead of making it you can buy seven dust at your loca;l walmart.you just take handfulls and throw it all over the plants lightly dusting the plants and ground.you can usually harvest 3 days after seven dusting.be sure to wash what you have harvested though.both of these methods are not harnful to your plants or any animals!hope this helps!ive used both for many years!

If its slugs, you can cut oranges in half remove the meat of the orange and place these 1/2 orange peel cups slightly propped up around your plants...the slugs crawl under them and are trapped and die. Also tobacco water with a few drops of kitchen soap makes a good spray for the leaves. Marigolds planted around your plants help ward of bugs as well.

You can buy a spray, usually it can be a worm, snail, ants, depends of the bite you see. They are biological spray in the market (fatty acid, pyretrines). The best is to buy some, and remeber although they are biologiacal, handel them with care. Try not to use in open flowers becuase it would kill the bees and butterflies, who polinizasi the plant.

Many insects feed at night. Go out with a flashlight and see if you can sopt any activity. Then use the appropriate remedy. To trap earwigs, lay 1 foot pieces of bamboo on the ground; they will go into it. In the morning just shake them out.
