I left out of town for 2 days. When i came back home i was going to wash a load of dirty clothes. When i opened the washer i realized i washed a load right before i left out of town. Now my clothes smell like detergent with a hint of mildew. Please let me know what i can do or buy to make my clothes get back to normal. I would sure hate to spend a lot of money to get new clothes.

Re-washing usually takes care of this

I will aslo throw in an extra dryer sheet after rewashing just in case thereis any lingering mold smell.

Rewash them. It should help take the mildew off and make them smell better. If you continue having problems with them smelling moldy after they've been washed, you might want to wash them in water with just a little bleach added. The bleach should help kill the mold, just be careful that you don't add too much bleach and end up bleaching out the colors.

Rewash with a cup of vinegar to kill the mold then rewash again with a little extra detergent to get rid of the vinegar smell. You need to see if the mildew is actually noticable and prespray those spots before washing with vinegar.

Good luck!

The vinegar will take out the smell, but not mildew spots. You can try mildew remover, but be very careful, not all clothes can handle the harsh chemicals.
