Heating styrofoam cups in a microwave releases chemicals into the liquid that could potentially cause throat/stomach cancers and other health problems. Unless your container specifically says 'microwave safe', don't heat it.

Styrofoam® is a trademark of Dow Chemical Co.
It is used in making building materials, but never disposable cups.

So, if you can find a Styrofoam® coffee cup, feel free to do anything you want with it.
