Look him straight in the eye, if his eyes move down or right, he's lying to you. If he looks you straight in the eye, and tells you a lie without moving his eyes, he is a pathological liar and you will never be able to trust him.
Also might want to do a little detective work, behind the scenes

he stumbles over words, if that doesn't work eye to eye contact, if that doesn't work just sit back and listen to what he says without questions, wait a week and then bring it up again like you forgot see if he says the same thing, if he does do your homework see if the story backs up, check phone calls and the time they come in. If that doesn't work then he is really good at what he does or he is telling the truth.

If his not looking at you directing in your eyes as he speaks, then his lying to you.

No eye contact, flushing, mumbling, unnecessary anger, looking down at his hands/feet, nervous actions - scratching, etc...

everyone lies in their own special way. sometimes, though, people forget what they lie about or it doesn't really make sense, or you can ask other people or look at the evidence to catch them out. If they're acting out of character?

When you get that feeling and you dont know why you feel it and you tell yourself that he isint and everythings fine, he is cheating. They lie constantly, its in their nature.
