Yes; I've seen both the original NY production with Angela Lansbury & Len Cariou, and the current revival with Patti Lupone. Most people think it is Stephen Sondheim's masterpiece ( I prefer Sunday in the Park with George, but I understand their point.). It's dark, perverse in its humor, and unflinchingly cynical in its themes. The music is staggeringly beautiful, and the show is surprisingly moving. It is a classic of Musical Theatre

yes, I have seen it twice, once the original with Carious and Lansbury and the second time was the revival. I loved it the first time but was highly disappointed with the second mounting of it. It needs to be seen on a huge stage and the settings and costumes the Lees did for the Uris stage were unforgettable considering that is the largest stage on Broadway.

Heck yeah, I have! When I was younger it was my favorite musical! I saw a live performance once with Jean Stapleton (Edith Bunker from 'All in the Family'), and it was great-Well, it was great except for the fact that J.Stapleton can't sing to save her life! I've seen an amateur version, and for the size of the venue and the budget they were working with, I thought is was excellent (I've also seen the one on VHS w/Angela Landsbury-perfection!)! It's really dark, with great, catchy tunes. It's got it's own brand of black humor. "City on Fire" is a biting, insanity-fueled little number that is served up with just the right mix of chaos, melody, synchronicity and tragedy. It will have you tearing out your hair in the aisles! O.K., that's weird-Sorry. Yeah, it's an excellent, darkly comedic, campy, beautiful piece of musical artistry.

Like Theater Guy said a masterpiece (though I prefer Pacific Overtures). However it should never be attempted by amateurs unless they have a truly inspired director,MD and choreographer, unlike the two 'am' shows I've seen.

One of my all time favorites...I saw it at the Sondheim Festival at the Kennedy Center. ( A more classic interpretation of the show), I have heard the new one is very abstract and sparse....but wonderful....all in all the music is some of Sondheim's best. Hope you enjoy!
