I hate it. When conversations turn from critiqueing people to outright bashing, it bothers me.

Same here, unless we're talking about some really, really horrible person like a serial killer or something. Other than that I really don't like to be too negative about people because i don't want my kids to pick up on that. Everyone has their bad days, myself included, so I try not to judge people too harshly.

Yes, any type of negativeity bothers me. I try my best to stay away from negitive people and situations. I try to find the good in everything and everybody. If I can't help you I'm not going to hurt you. Rather than hurt, I leave you alone. Some folk love drama. The ones that want to bring on drama are the ones I stay away from. You sound like a nice person. Don't let others steal your sunshine. Don't let the negative forces in this world make you negative. Find the positive.

I hate it when conversations turn that way, and it often seems like a shipwreck in slow motion - you know it is happening, you know you are a part of it, and you cannot stop it.

There's one person who comes up in my circle of friends... well I just go silent now when that person's name comes up. I really don't want to be part of a pile-on any more, and if you get into the conversation that can happen so easily.

In part, I think this is why I really don't want to know what people say about me when I am not around. Some of it may be positive, some of it may not be, but I'd prefer to just think the best about people. Still, even in my own case, I have to do better at just keeping my mouth shut. :-)

Light banter in pointing out people's somethings are just fine as long as you can take a retaliation. Criticizing/ bashing other people is downright mean. Especially, if they were doing this to spite the person. If they were being honest, it's okay. If they have a motive for spite then it's mean, and it bothers me.

Yes it bothers me. It just brings on more negativity. Some people scoff at "If
you don't have anything nice to say about a person don't say anything." But I find that something as simple as finding a redeeming quality in the object of criticism or , OK, something to laugh at , lightens up the negative load!

It bothers me too, although to be honest I've done it in the past.
Usually I don't,though. When there's something bad that has to
be said I prefer to say it to someone's face than behind his back.
The people who take pleasure in bashing someone behind their
back are also put down themselves by others, and there's a certain justice to that.

Depends on who it is. Some people deserve outright bashing.

Yes! It does bother me to talk negatively about people. I hate gossiping. The only time it is permissible to me is if the person has wronged me previously, then of course they deserve to be talked about.

Well, if I don't like the subject person with reasons then I do it and then feel guilty afterward because I know what goes around comes around and I know I wouldn't want people talking crap about me.

But, unfortunately it doesn't stop me from doing it, boy isn't it great to be human....
