Well, if I went to the local cafe and ordered "spiegel ei", I'm sure they wouldn't serve me, unless the local cafe was in germany. Of course if I asked for eggs, sunny side up, in germany, they might look at me as if I'm from some other continent.

Even in English ordering food can be a bit of a problem. Brown toast to me means toasted brown (whole wheat) bread as opposed to toasted wheat bread. Isn't bread usually made of wheat, unless it's oat bread or rye bread?

So go ahead, order in whatever language you want. You might get served, and then again, you might not. ANd if the proprietor will only serve you if you order in English, you know the rules.

I have been told at work that it is not acceptable for me and another anglo lady to talk in english. The man in the story is not being permitted by the government.
This guy should be boycotted by everyone as he is being ,if not a racist,a bit of a jerk.
It's one thing to understand that you will need english to get by in the US but the way he is expressing himself is wrong.

I think that is ridiculous.
I think that people that want to live in the US should learn English but the sign is rude.
I have travelled to many foreign countries and have not been able to speak every different language. Americans think that everybody should speak English even if they don't live in the US. Americans go to Paris and get mad at the French for not speaking English- how self centred can you get!!
