Sometimes I don't realise I'm doing it!

There's lots of different ways to do it. You can buy a pot of liquid you dip your nails in, from Superdrugs, Boots or anywhere that does nail stuff generally, and it tastes foul! I did it by wearing nail varnish (brightly coloured) so that I wouldn't want to ruin the nail varnish so I stopped biting and after while I forgot all about doing it! You can buy nail treatments as well which are designed to stop you biting your nails. Or another way is to attach fake/acrylic ones, that's how my mate did it.

Don't try all the foul tasting stuff - you get used to it. Put a plaster around each of your little and ring fingers but bite away to your hearts content on the others. After about three weeks the nail will have grown long enough to file into shape and it will feel different when you try to bite so you will notice what you are doing. Then do middle fingers, then index and finally thumb. I told a friend to do this and she has managed to stop it all except for the left thumb (don't ask me why). Good luck - I have stopped and I know how hard it is.

Nail biting is a sign of minor stress. How many times do you see people of lets just say mature years biting their nails. I would bet that you are a young person. And I have not checked out your profile.
Suggestion :
Take a photograph of your nails and post it here as your avatar ( your little pic ). Then you will be reminded on a daily basis of how awful your hands look. Keep changing your pic as your nails grow.
Good luck.

I bite my nails too but I can't bite them when I have acrylics and fake nails on top. Then when I take the acrylics off after a few months I don't bite them for months. When I notice that I biting them again I get a new manicure and i wont bite them because I want me nails to look pretty.

I bit my nails for most of my life until I finally went to the nail salon and got fake nails with acrylic over them. I went back to the salon for a year and during that time I noticed that I wasn't biting my nails anymore. But somehow I took up smoking instead. Darn!

There's a rumor that Britney Spears was hypnotized in order to try to stop biting HER nails, but someone on here told me that her nephew said it wasn't true.

There is a nail polish that has a real bitter taste to it. I use it on my son who bites his nails and it has been working.
