I have never heard of that. Odd.

I could see them starting you at an hourly rate and changing that to a sallery later on - like after a month, but yes you should look into that and see if thats legal. Also, look for a different job.

Slave labor was outlawed many years ago. This sounds pretty
illegal to me. What kind of job is this? If you have no job
experience and you want to prove yourself by working or helping
out someone for a very short time span thats one thing but a
month ? No one is that hard up.
