Normal weight for *most* 3 week olds is between 3.1 and 5.5 kilos, or 6 lb. 13 oz. and 12 lb. 2 oz. About half of all babies will be between 3.7 and 4.5 kilos (8 lb. 2 oz. to 9 lb. 15 oz.). I am including a link to the newest growth charts--the first ones ever based on children who are *known* to have been well-nourished.

there isnt a norm- theres an average. when you take him in for his nine month check the dr should chart you out the percentile for his weight and length. At 3 weeks if he weighs 4 lbs he might be in like the 10th percentile, meaning he's at the low end of all other boys his age, however like my son was 10 lbs- he was 95th percentile or high end meaning only 5% of all other boys were bigger then him. Dont worry unless the doctor tells you there is a problem, they all usuallt catch up or slow down. My son is one and just now started to move down the scale to average back out with his length. However I would sat since the average weight of a newborn id 6.5 lbs then a 3 week old average would probably be around 7 lbs.

some of that depends on how much the weight was at birth.
From 10 to 12 pounds for an average healthy baby.

Depends on how much he weighed when he was born. Most babies lose quite a bit of weight during their hospital stay after they're born. If your baby weighed 7 lb., you took him home and he weighed 6.5 lb., three weeks from then, he should probably weigh somewhere between 7-9 lb., roughly.
