I work for a University. We have tuition waivers and tuition remission for part of our benefits package. We get 100% waivers and remission. I just don't know what tuition remission means. Someone please help!

1. What is the Tuition Remission Program?

It is a program that enables the "Eligible Employees" of "Eligible Human Service Providers" to attend state-supported undergraduate courses at any Massachusetts community college, state college or the University of Massachusetts, excluding the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, on a tuition-free basis. This program does not remit costs for program fees, application fees, laboratory fees, books and supplies, or any other costs.

Tuition Remission

The twelve GLCA member colleges and two members of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (Beloit and Grinnell) participate in the Tuition Remission Exchange (TRE) program. Students who are eligible for tuition remission because of a parent's employment at one of the participating colleges receive tuition remission at any of the other colleges in the exchange.

That means you can take a certain number of credit hours a semester at no charge to you! At the university I attended, employees could take 6 credit hours (usually 2 courses) per semester at no charge.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS! You can get a college education at very little cost. You'll have to pay for your books, but tuition is the most expensive part of going to college.

Also, if you're still working for the university when you have children who are college age, they will probably be able to take classes for free.
