I've seen many a beautiful sunset. Yes on the panhandle of Florida they are still gorgeous. But never have I seen a sunset as gorgeous as the ones from the pacific beaches. I think I took a whole roll of pictures during one sunset I witnessed in San Diego. It was breathtaking.
And here I am further east. I'm not on the coast......but at the top of a hill. Sunrises are gorgeous as I watch the sun appear on the far side of the hill.......barely visible while making the sky pink and red and purple. But I'm sure no matter where you are........the glory of the sunrise is equally breathtaking.
So are they best in the west? Or at least in the the East? hare to say. Personally.......I think it is in the eye of those that have the ability to stop.....take notice.......and frame that mental picture so that they may carry it around with them always.

Both the best sunsets and sunrises I have seen are in Texas during the summer time because of all the thunderstorms. Until you see it, you can't imagine what I am talking about. Sunsets are nice here in California and Sunrises are nice in New Jersey, though I am sad to have that knowledge (NJ, I mean). If you live in the right areas of California, you can see some nice sunrises, same for sunsets in NJ, or the entire east coast, I guess.

Sunrise in East and sunset in West. I once saw a solar eclipse over the Atlantic Ocean (East). It was beautiful when the light that always lays across the water totally disappeared and it was total darkness except for the stars. With no light nearby, there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the black, night sky a space that doesn't have a star. In the city, they are hard to see but in the country it's amazing.

I find the sunset usually looks better in the west than in the east. And as for sunrises, well you can't beat the east!

You have it right; however, I have seen amazing sunrises in Hawaii....particularly on Haleakala in Maui.

Of course, some breathtaking sunsets there too. I've witnessed the 'green flash' dozens of times and never get sick of it.

As for the 'east' coast, I've seen some good sunrises here in Jersey at a place called Sunrise Mountain (appropriately named). I've caught some awesome sunsets during autumn but they aren't an 'every night' occurance. Well, sunsets are, just not the 'best' ones.....
I've also seen some fantastic sunrises and sunsets on the island of St. John.....east coast, baby!
But as for the 'best' (and since you did say BEST) The sunrises in the east and sets in the west...... follow its lead!

If you're asking if between east & west which has the better (prettier) sunset, it's the west, since the sun sets over the ocean (U.S.). The sun rises in the east over the ocean and it's beautiful. But, yeah, west coast sunsets are prettier.

The sun only rises in the East. The sun only sets in the West. What is your question?
