Oh my god. I totally agree with you. I am 20 years old and the only thing I listen to is classic rock. I am a huge Styx fan and they came out in the 70's. The first three preset stations on my car radio are all stations that play 70's and 80's. I listen to very little out now. The music out now is pretty much all about the bass and how loud you can make it and pretty much question and answer and rap are the most popular. Sex is talked about a lot, and music from the seventies and eighties was just simpler and easy to listen to and you can do other things and just forget you have it on. Anyway, I totally agree with you that the music from the 70's and 80's is better than the music out now. I agree with everyone who said that it was because the music now is just so mindless that it has no meaning and twenty years from now, no one is gonna know what the hell it means, whereas the music from the sixties thru to the late nineties with the invasion of the boy bands and modern music is good. But overall the music from the sixties to the early nineties is the best by far.

I totally agree, although today does have some good music, it was definitely better back then. I'm not big on disco, and the 80's were just so so, but I LOVE classic rock. people in the 60's and 70's knew how to make good music. especially Pink Floyd, etc. The lyrics actually had a meaning that wasn't shallow, and you had to really listen to the music in order to fully appreciate it. And all this on top of a catchy beat and killer guitar! LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!!!!

Hell yeah!! The stuff they put out now is mindless pop crap or headache inducing rap!
I'm not too crazy for the 70's stuff, but the 80's were the best! That was the turning point in music, in my opinion. Before that, everybody pretty much followed everybody else. The 80's saw new sounds, new looks, new attitudes towards music. Bands weren't afraid to sound different, they did their own thing, and it was cool! It still is!!

I agree with you 100%. You notice alot of songs now are remade from the 70s & 80s. Also the music is taken from the 70s and 80s. No one makes their own music now!

Im 25 and my all time favorite song ever is Heaven helps the man (who fights his fears) from the Footloose Soundtack. I find myself listening to it very loud in my car and I will be at a stop light, people will be looking at me all crazy like im retarded or maybe they think I just forgot to have a CD player installed in my car this century. However I do not care because I like it! You should see the looks I get when I put on some Price and stat bee boppin to it in my front seat going down I-85 in ATL rush hour traffic...You would think a spaceship landed. I agree with ya 100% on the 80's music. The 70's were ok...lotta drugs back then made the music prettty hot! HEHE

At any given time good and bad music is made, but typically the good stuff has the staying power. 10, 20, 50 years, or even centuries later, the stuff that wasn't worth listening to has been forgotten. In the meantime, you're comparing it to the current time, where the junk is still around, so you might get the idea that current music on the average is worse than music from the past. In reality, though, the good music of today is as good as the good music of the past, as we'll see twenty years from now.

I've also noticed folks tend to have an affinity for the music when they were in middle school/high school, I suppose for the nostalgia value.

I agree. Todays music just doesn't give that good feeling like the music of the 70s and the 80s. I think some of todays artists care less about what thier music sounds like and more about what thier videos look like.
