not really sure but first off are u running updated software on an old operating system if so id say most of the new software is made for XP

well event win XP get that problem 2, here some tip
check window update , download AVG antivirus Free(ur antivirus might not working) do not install more than 1 ANTIVIRUS software on ur computer, download Free trail Anti-spyware (Spyware Dr is recommend * free scan only so it will tell u if ur pc is infect)

1. Upgrade to Win XP ... more stable
2. A virus presently on u'r computer is causing this behaviour

Did you check to see if the software is compatiable with that operating system? That could be the first problem.
