Does it seem likes it more imporant to participate in the sort of mindless groupthink we call "policitcal correctness" than it is to work things out logically in your own mind? Has the concept of truth gone by the wayside as a result of this? Do you ever feel like you're in the twilight zone or some Orwellian nightmare?

Yes, this has gotten out of hand, and the weird thing is, when you try to speak with "political correctness", the people you are referring to still get offended!

There was a point where political correctness was needed, but not anymore because I think our culture is aware enough to be aware of other cultures. Now I'm just rambling... but as a whole, yes I think the political correctedness issue has goten out of control.

A few minutes of my day being devoted to being politically correct (or as I call it-NICE), doesn't hinder me in any way. How can it affect your thought process? Only if you are racist and now you are pretending not to be for the reason of being politically correct. That might affect your thought process, but being politically correct is supposed to help you not be racist anymore. So I guess it isn't working.
