Remember that the most dangerous and damaging drugs are already legal - tobacco and alcohol. So should we legalise all the others? Well some think that by making drugs available, usage will increase and therefore more people will have a drug 'problem'; however I think it's fair to say the only 'problem' with drugs is the associated crime that affects others in society. If someone chooses to mess up their heads with drugs, that's their right. It becomes a problem when they steal from others or hurt others in the process of getting money for drugs.

If we legalised all drugs, we could ensure that minors did not have access to them (think of the legislation around booze and cigs), we could fund health services and drug rehab centres, we could monitor the usage, trends and predict problem areas, we could ensure the quality (most heroin overdoses are caused by high quality heroin accidentally being injected), and we could create safe places for people to use drugs in a safe way.

So yes, let's bite the bullet and legalise them. I don't use drugs (except the odd glass of wine), but I would fully support my fellow human beings' choice to do what they wish with their lives, as well as enjoy the knowledge that such a move would reduce the likelihood of my house being broken into or me being mugged for my wallet.

If we legalize drugs and open up "shops" for users, who pays for their supply? I read one ignorant post that says the government could regulate it. How? An addict will DO ANYTHING to get money for their habit. Crack has destroyed my town. I've seen good people get addicted and then burglarize, steal, rob, and prostitute to get money. I will not pay taxes so that some loser can go to a government center and get their "fix" at the taxpayers expense.

As to the other morons who think Ecstasy, Cocaine, and Speed should be legalized...stupid...you have no concept of what these drugs do to people, or the after affects.

I dealt with a young (19 year old) white girl from a middle-class family who was addicted to Crack. She was absolutely gorgeous. She wound up prostituting herself to the dregs of society to pay for her addiction. Wound up destroying her...

many drugs already are legal, like tobacco and alcohol. It does seem a bit of a hypocracy that possibly less destructive drugs such as cannabis are illegal while these other drugs are legally readily available (and taxed - maybe there's the answer).

Some drugs yes! I think E's Speed, Coke, weed should be legal. They make people happy! Smack and crack should never be made legal, they are too dangerous, they ruin peoples lives.

Most class A drugs ARE illegal...

Most but the hardest and most destructive drugs should be legalised or de-criminalised... And the government(s) should tax their use... :D

For me to even consider that, you would have to put together a bit more of a convincing argument!
Until then, no. It would be irresponsible for the government to legalise such damaging substances (oh, and smoking should be banned).
