It can...or at least could, with the older models carrying larger batteries. There was an incident in Greece, where an old man used to carry it in his shirt's pocket and it exploded and messed his face. Batteries explode, not the phones.

It can explode but for the most part it is highly unlikely when used under normal conditions. if it does explode it will not cause as much damage as a gernade.
If it does explode the good news is if you're injured you can sue for $$.

true, if i had gotten a cellphone battery my cellphone would have exploded because at the time that i bought it the company came out with this thing where if you got a replacement battery it explodes, or something like that

I think not. It can, perhaps get an electrical short. This may make it fizz and sputter and maybe even smoke....but not explode.

true....if left in direct sunlight or near heat/hot places for extended period of time !! rarely does happen though, so nothing major to worry about !
