Any long-term exposure to another society is better than the same amount of time spent sitting in a class room or working at a job in your own country. You will learn much more than you can possibly talk about and much more than books will ever give you. So, the answer is, Yes, study abroad is definitely good. It is much better than studying at home if you want to really understand anything about the world and the way the US affects it.
