I was using Limewire. I downloaded Bearshare today and Zango which supports it started giving me a lot of pop ups. I tried closing both Lime.. and bearshare they kept restarting. I restarted my PC but again they started up automatically. I kept getting an alert asking if I wanted to make Limewire my default magnetic reader (I think) If I pressed ok Limewire restarted. Then I uninstalled both from my PC. But still I'm getting a lot of popups. They are ads or webpages opening with IE. The webpages first open with www.ad-w-a-r-e.com... and then go on to other websites. My PC is running very slowly. I've scanned my PC atleast 5 times with Ad-Aware SE and I'm scanning it with Norton too. In between all this Spyware Nt (I think) asked if I want to install it. I thought it was anti-adware and installed it. Ad-aware showed me it was a critical object and I've uninstalled it. Pop ups keep coming. Please help me out....

Hi Tesla, I have a few things you can do. Do these steps okay?

1) Do a search on your computer for bearshare and limewire. Delete them all.

2) Click on start Menu, then click on RUN.
Type regedit and then hit enter.
This will bring up your registration keys.
You will need to find the directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then click on Software.
Anything that has to do with limewire or bearshare, just delete the whole folder or any keys that has that name under SOFTWARE.

3) Go back to RUN and then type in msconfig and you will see a popup screen. Go to STARTUP tab and then uncheck all the things you do not recognize. You have to restart your computer.

Tell me if those 3 things helped. You will also want to make sure your popup blocker is working correctly.

Some things you can do : go to your control panel into Add / Remove programs and get rid of Limewire if you can. Also go to Internet Options on your toolbar and delete all cookies. You should also go to you " My Computer " in the control panel and check all of your files in C drive, delete everything of Limewires. Finally run your anti virus program scanning all of your files in your C drive.
Limewire is very dangerous it will take control of your system and damage your hard drive.
One thing to remember is, if you see a drop down telling you that it may be dangerous to remove the Limewire program then just leave it on file but disable it through your Internet options settings.
I'm no expert but I had the same problem with it. You should really get professional help. Shouldn't cost too much and it'll be worth it.

Now you will have to pay for something....see what happens when you steal!!!

Either download or purchase Webroot Spysweeper. This is the best of the best in Spyware protection, it runs all the time in the background like an antivirus should...not just when you elect to scan like Adaware SE and Spybot.

UPDATE: You actually installed something because an add told you to??? Holy smokes you need to take computer security 101.

I exactly agree with Sam. Use "Spybot" and "Adaware SE Personal" once in a while to keep the spies away! I guess , You can download them from www.download.com .

By the way , I use Lime Wire , and i havent had a problem since i just use this program , not similar ones.

I think System Restore is the way to go.

Click 'Start' - 'Help and Support' - then 'Undo changes to your computer with System Restore'. Run through the wizard and pick a restore date before you installed all that and see if that takes care of it.

Good luck!

Sounds like you are loaded with spyware and possibly viruses. Stop with all the P2P programs which is causing all this.

Go download Ewido and run it. www.ewido.net

ok the first guy who answered is wrong it is not stealing beacause everyone who uses limewire agrees to a contract keeping you from multiplying and selling the music. it also makes you agree to sharing your music with whoever wants to have it.

limewire takes over parts of your machine. i just went through this. re ghost your system and start over. if you try add/remove it will only take parts of other programs with it. system restore will not work either. save what you can.
