I worked at a gas station when I was in High school.one day I was filling a car up with gas and I kept calling the driver Sir until I looked at the name on her credit card.then I looked at her closer and could see that she was a woman.I can not tell you how bad I felt and I was embraced for my stupid mistake.

Yes, actually. I was on a mission trip with my youth group, and we had been assigned to go to a nursing home. We were visiting this cute little old lady who was a first-generation immigrant from Holland (so she had a cute little Dutch accent) and was also half-blind. Someone in my group introduced me to her, and she said "I can't see very well, but I'm sure he's a very handsome young man." There was a bit of an awkward silence for a moment, then someone said "um...she's a girl." The lady, to her credit, felt really embarrassed and apologized up and down.

Of course, what you have to realize is that there were several things that were working against me. I have a rather low voice, and at the time, my hair was pulled back into an (admittedly severe) ponytail. I was also wearing kind of baggy clothing; I was in middle school, which was a time when I labored under the delusion that I was a medium rather than a small when buying clothes (especially t-shirts...and I finally realized my mistake as a freshman in high school, thank goodness). I looked perfectly feminine, facially, but she couldn't see my face.

So really, when you add up all of the factors I mentioned above, and add in the fact that she was half-blind, it's no wonder she mistook me for a guy. I highly doubt anyone would do it again, though. I wear clothing that fits properly and shows off my shape, I have a sufficient amount of curves that leaves no doubt as to what my gender is, and I don't wear my hair in severe ponytails anymore.

Yes, from the ages 20-22 I was very "butch." I had really short hair, no make up at all, and what can I say about the clothes! It was funny, because at the club gay guys would hit on me, until I said a word (my voice is very girly LOL).

The worst experience was, one time that I went shopping with my dad, he saw an old friend, and he said..."oh, so this is your son!" I was like OMG, poor dad.

Anyway, I don't look like that anymore, since I got a job and gotta dress nice and girly :)

Yes it hapens to me all the time. I do dress very butch, I like men's clothes. But I alos have a low voice & look very much like my father. But I don't get mad when it happpens, I understand that i DO look like a guy. However , ust for the record, it's not deliberate. I Do not look at myself in the mroning and say, oh I'll wear this, it hides my chest more etc etc. I just am who I am and am comfortable in who I am.

I've never done it on purpose except when it was necessary to ensure mine and/or someone elses safety. Once on a greyhound my g/f and I chatted wih this guy, and throughout the convo he made alot of homophobic remarks and we both just got a very uneasy feeling about him. I think he may have been drinking. So when he asked my name, I stuck out my hand and told him my name was Mike. lol

I'm a dude, and I have always had long (and I mean LONG - over halfway down my back). I have gone into stores/garage sales and been called 'ma'am' and 'Mrs.'...

My wife and I have gotten strange looks - people thinking we are two chicks...

The funniest one was: I was driving to my brothers wedding, and I was at a red light. A car pulls up next to me while I'm changing the radio station and I hear a bunch of hooting and hollering - I look over and it is a car full of five dudes, and as soon as they see they were 'catcalling' a guy, they all turned the other way simultaneously!

When I was a baby I was often mistaken for a girl because of long blond hair. Not a problem anymore as have no hair left on head.

Yes. From age 9 and till I was around 17 years old a lot of people mistook me for a boy. In the past few years it hardly ever happens anymore.

Back in the 9th grade, I used to wear pretty baggy clothes, but I wore make-up. I was going for the whole hip hop thing, anyway, I was getting my hair cut, it was longer in the front and gradually got shorter in the back, all the way to practically buzzed (Oh, god, I know) but anyway, there was a little boy next to me getting his hair cut to and he said out loud "Is that a boy? Or a girl?" lol

No. But I've been compared to the opposite gender. I guess I can be an a***h**** at times. :) No, actually it's the size of my muscle which is compared. I've been nicknamed Dennis the Menace, does that count??

Once, I was freshly shaved, a bit chubby, with eyeliner and someone at the club walked up to me and called me a hot chick. That was two years ago. Now I've lost the chub on my face and the gym has turned me in to one cut dude.
