If you are saying

1.) (log(.78))/(log(2)) = -.35845397... or log(2)(.78)
2.) (log(.80))/(log(2)) = -.32192809... or log(2)(.80)

but if you mean

1.) (log(78))/(log(2)) = 6.2854022... or log(2)(78)
2.) (log(80))/(log(2)) = 6.32192809... or log(2)(80)

I think using the rules of log, it will be 78 - 2 = 76
80 - 2 = 78

I hope i'm right.

1. = log .78/2 =log .39 = log39- log 100 = log 39- 2
2. = log .80/2 = log .40 =log 40 -log 100 =log40 -2

This cannot be easily simplified. You will have to use the log table. Usually they ask questions which can be easily simplified.
