Every baby is different. Some say their first word at 8-9 months, and others not until 17 or 18 months. My daughter (who was *really* into talking) could clearly say 200 words at 16 months old (strangers could understand her), but that is *extremely* unusual.

My doctor said that every baby should have 10 words in his vocabulary at one year old. I know sounds crazy because I have a 16 months boy and he only have 4 or 5 on his own. Also she told me that girls usually(not always) start to talk before boys. If your child have 3 or more years old he may need help. I have a 3 1/2 years old boy and he is taking speech therapy. By now he should have more than 200 words and he have about 20 on his own. I have a 4 years old girl and she start to talk at 7 months old. At one year old she had about 20 words on her own. Every kid is different.

By 15months he/she should be able to be saying alot of mommy, daddy, wala (water) - little things like that... By 18 months a bit more clearer... If by 18 months there is not much words coming out, have him evaluated by early intervention program in your area. I noticed this problem with my son, and everyone thought that I was crazy because he was too young, and I was right, he had a delayed, but they did not know the reason why.. So he started receiving speech therapy and started saying full sentences by three years old without stuttering...

every child is different. Mine began with mama and dada around 8 mos, but i think thats a bit early! Some babies take as long as 2 years and thats considered healthy, normal development. Check in with your ped. if you have concerns.

I even have boy/woman twins that are 10 months old. They the two began asserting mama and dada at approximately 7 months old now they babble maximum of diverse words and sounds.they are beginning to mimic the failings that we are saying to them, it is so lovable! The older your toddler gets the greater words they're going to learn and could be speaking earlier you be attentive to it.Your toddler is progressing fantastic Im specific.solid success!!
