There is a movemnt today to remove all images, names, and symbols associated with the Confederacy. example: Georgia changed its state flag to drop the stars and bars.

No, not necessarily.

The confederacy has a definite place in history that can't be erased.

As for using confederate symbols in state/government contexts, that's trickier. Finland and Germany don't continue to use the swastika (it's illegal to do so), even though that is also a part of their history. For some people, symbols like the Stars and Bars have similar and equally disturbing echoes.

Like it or not, symbols such as the stars and bars have collected some very negative connotations over the years--valid or not, and I can see why there are those who are uncomfortable with the continued use of confederate symbols in a way that might suggest a support or enforce those connotations.

No, just because it is over doesn't mean that it didn't happen. The confederacy is a big part of America's past. We need to keep those things so people don't forget--it is NOT like they will misconstrue the symbolism for current American representation.

No. It was an important part of history and it proves that the United States can survive. Slaves were freed and the Union was preserved. I don't know why we should do that!
