In most of the hotels I've been looking at the smoking rooms are $10.00 cheaper, which is weird, but if I'm a non-smoker will it really matter if I book a smoking room? Is there usually a smell or anything that I could even notice the difference? If not, 10 bucks off a night is worth it I think?

okay, so then according to some of the answers and considering they're pretty cheap hotels that I've been looking at, it's probably not the best idea - thanks for the answers.

Personally, I would rather pay the $10 a night to avoid the smoking room. I have bad allergies and one hotel I went in only had smoking rooms left. I didn't think it would make much of a difference. But I was pretty miserable for the whole trip because of it.

Really, it just depends on you. If you don't like the smell of smoke, I would try to avoid it. If you have allergies or asthma, I definitely would stay away.

I have been in some hotels where they have a machine that is supposed to take the smell of smoke away. If the hotel has one, you can request them to use it in your room before you arrive, but I don't know how well they work.

Smoking Hotel Rooms

I work for a hotel at ours we do not charge more for non smoking. But in a smoking room it is for smokers and it is hard to get the smell out of the room because it is in the walls and carpet. when checking in ask if you Can see the room first if they do not let you they have something to hide. But they should. Also ask for air freshener and turn on the air or open a window. That help a little. A lot of hotels do not change or wash the comforter of blankets just the sheets and pillow cases and towels of course. After you are in the room call the front desk and ask them for a new comforter and blanket.
Hope that answers your question

I'm a smoker, myself, and have often been turned-off by the smell of stale smoke upon entering a room...usually at a cheap spot where I just need a few hours of sleep for one night.

Be sure to find out if there's a ventilation system in place...If so, You shouldn't have a Problem!

If the hotel is really clean you wont notice it. I have stayed in many smoking and non smoking, (to tell you the truth, people rent non smoking and smoke in them any way).
What really matters is room maintenance.

PS I'm a non smoker, and hate the smell of smoke.

Some of the smoking rooms I've stayed in smell so much like smoke, you end up smelling like a smoker yourself after one night. That's why I never risk it.

at some good hotels it really doesn't matter, but at some of the cheaper ones it really really matters. When i went to hershy, penn we decided to go to a cheap hotel to save money, BIG MISTAKE. i think all of the rooms but one was smoking. when we pulled back the covers on our bed we found that someone had dumped an ash try on our sheets. We left the hotel then and went and stayed at the Hershey hotel.

Smoking rooms smell like crap. If you're a non-smoker, it's worth the $10 extra not to have to gag the entire time you're in your room.

How sensitive to smoke are you.
It might be very noticeable ... but depending on the hotel and their cleaning policies, you may never notice. It's a gamble. But if the smell of smoke doesn't bother you too much, go for it!

Myself, I'm pretty sensitive and I usually notice.

I hate smoking rooms , it makes your clothes stick , so spend the xtra 10,you'll have t probably spend 10 rewashing your clothes anyways...if you do opt for the cheaper room , then take a bottle of febreeze with you to spray down the couches ,chairs and the bedspreads...they usually don't wash those!
