it varies, depending on the server speed, your computer speed, and the amount of users accessing the site, so i can be very fast or very slow

That depends on nature of connection
Dial up - Specified speed : 56 KBPS (Both upload and download speed ) But the actual speed will be less than that
ADSL - Specified speed : Upload 250 KBPS Download 520 KBPS
CABLE or Leased Lines- 2 mbps to 100 mpbs - Upload as well as download

the download speed is usually 1 / 8 of your internet speed and if you connected to a Lan then the lesser users the faster will your download speed
