I have a compaq over 2Ghz amd 64 ,512mb ram, 65Gb HDD ( 51%free), i have run scan disk, up to date norton, and Ad-Aware software., yet it takes nearly three min to get to usable state from power on, sometimes the hard drive light just keeps flashing even when its idle. Why is it like this, and so much slower than when i bought it ( 1 year 5 months ago )

Have you run disc cleanup? Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> System Tools --> Disc Cleanup.

Have you defragged? Same as above but when you get to System Tools --> Defragment.

NOTE: If you haven't done either of the above, it could take a LONG time to run, especially the defrag. First time I ran defrag on my computer it took almost 2 hours.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: 512MB RAM is on the low side, especially for a lot of today's programs and applications. If you can afford to, upgrade RAM to the maximum capacity for your computer.

Well in virtually all groups, your web is actually plugged into a few field on or close your avenue. When every person plugged into that field attempt to max out their web connections you may also enjoy a few slower web. As on your pc, it does have whatever to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your pc runs it. Viruses too can sluggish down your pc and absorb plenty of your web connection, making it look sluggish

Maybe you need to re-install windows, apparently your HDD has a lot of corrupted files and gaps. Try defragmenting too.
