Fair dinkum... beware of some Aussie terms however - Durex is a brand of sticky tape rather than, as in the UK, a brand of condom. Also 'wog' means a stomach upset, so careful with that one (E.g. 'Sorry mate, can't come for a tinnie, I'm in bed with a wog'). Crook means ill and chook means chicken, hence KFC often referred to as 'The Crook Chook'......

Actually, there is an art to the throwing. The thrower chooses a shrimp and then walks about 30 yards from the BBQ. He is allowed a 15 yard run up, but no more. The idea of the sport is to hurl the shrimp toward the BBQ so that it lands fair and square between 2 snags which are exactly 10 inches apart. If the shrimp does not land in this spot points are added. The scoring is a little like golf in that the highest score loses. There are handicaps for beginners and anyone who is a bowler in cricket has an advantage because the throwing action is very similar. There are plans afoot to making shrimp tossing an Olympic sport. As with some tennis players who grunt or make some sort of noise when hitting the ball, points are added to the score if the sound emitted with the toss is not "G'day mate".
