The blood-red color of this beverage inspired its name, which is derived from the Spanish word for "blood." Sangria is made with red wine, fruit juices, soda water, fruit and sometimes liqueurs and brandy or cognac. Sagria is popular in Spain.

Here are a bunch of different sangria recipes.

Sangria is typically a mix of red wine, spirits, Casera/Lemonade and fresh fruits, served over ice. There are numerious variations and every restaurant has it's own recipie. Sangria is great at parties, barbeques and on the beach. Have fun creating your own, start off with my sangria recipe and if you feel you can impove it to suit your own taste, go ahead.

Sangria's appeal is all about taking your favorite red wine, your favorite fruits, and experimenting with them. Sangria is typically created from red wine, fruit juices, casera (sprite,7 up), fruit and spirits. When making your own Sangria, you can use a good quality red wine or a cheaper one. Personally I would use a cheaper wine not waste an expensive one in a mix. The choice is yours, you're the one drinking it!

There are 2 type's of Sangria, red and white. Red is the most popular. Charley's Bar is situated on the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain, here is our recipe.
Sangria Recipe
Half fill a 1 litre jug with ice
Add chopped or sliced fruit : Orange, Lemon, Apple
Add a tablespoon of sugar
Now for the booze
Add 3 long dashes of: Bacardi, Cointreau and Brandy
Half or 3/4 fill the jug with Red Wine
Add a long dash of Orange Juice
Top with La Casera, Lemonade, Sprite or 7 up
Give it a good stir and serve.

Some recipes I've seen recommend that you chill it overnight??
I recommend that you drink it straight away!!

White Sangria Recipe
Basically White Sangria is the same as Red Sangria but you replace the red wine with white wine and leave out the orange juice.

Sangria is a wine punch. It is delicious if made properly! Although the following recipe is older, it is a classic sangria recipe and has received rave reviews!!! Keep in mind that this recipe makes 100 servings, so cut the recipe as needed!

SANGRIA

2 gallons Zinfandel
1 cup brandy
1/2 cup Cointreau
2 quarts orange juice
2 cups lemon juice
1 cup superfine sugar
12 to 16 ice cubes
2 quarts chilled club soda
3 oranges, thinly sliced
3 lemons, thinly sliced

Thoroughly chill all ingredients. Pour the wine, brandy and Cointreau into a large punch bowl. Stir orange and lemon juice with the sugar until sugar has dissolved. Then add to bowl and stir to blend. Add ice cubes and soda and garnish with fruit slices. Serve in 4-ounce punch glasses or wineglasses.

Makes about 100 servings.

The ingredients for a sangria are:
1 bottle dry red wine
1 oz brandy (optional)
1 oz triple sec
1 tbsp sugar
club soda, very cold
orange slices
lime slices
lemon slice
several pineapple chunks
In a large pitcher, combine red wine, brandy, triple sec, sugar and fruit. Refrigerate overnight. When ready to serve, add club soda and more sugar (if desired). Stir then serve over ice.

Some people prefer a white sangria, if you would like to try that; you could substitute white wine for the red wine)
